Azar's laptop has endured two wars, Iraq & Afghanistan, and the treacherous Alaskan frontier and my 2.2 pound, 6 month old netbook cannot even make it through a night in a Vancouver hotel room. Yes, that's right friends...I broke my netbook this evening. When it fell out of the closet it had to fall on the most delicate part of the computer, the screen. Goodbye my dear and faithful friend. Needless to say this event put a great damper on our very wonderful day, but I refuse to let it ruin this adventure.
Today was absolutely grand in this "Wonderful Vancouver." We started the morning off to a trip to the local laundromat. Going to the laundromat is always a fun adventure in and of itself. The owner did not like that I only used half of the Tide box we purchased. Of course, the more we use, the more we would purchase, but we are frugal travelers and being gluttonous we the laundry detergent was not an option. While waiting for our laundry to run its course we went to Vancouver's local coffee chain, Blenz. We told the venders that we had to try out a local coffee house and were in protest of Starbucks (of course we are planning to visit the original Starbucks in Seattle). haha Afterwards we decided to explore more of the West End area of downtown and searched for the location where The Changling was filmed. West End is a great, funky section of town with lots of cafes, residences, and an organic health clinic. haha
After our domestication was complete we hopped the Sky Train and joy rode it out of downtown into the suburbs. At this point we were a bit famished, so we set out to cross the bridge into Granville Island where we were told had great outdoor markets. As we are walking across the bridge and down this fabulous street consumed of galleries and trendy cafe's we began to question, where are all the markets? Eventually we walked into a bank and it was at this point we were told we were not on the Island. Apparently the Island was underneath the bridge. So we turned around and set out again to find this ever illusive Island. When we did make it to Grandville Island...what organic, natural, hippy delicacy did we eat? A hamburger and fries. =)
Azar and I had been wanting to visit Queen Elizabeth Park, which happens to be the highest point in the city. The afternoon had turned into the most glorious day full of lots of sunshine. This was remarkable considering we had been warned of the rainstorms that were to brew during the day. What better afternoon then to go to a Queens Park. This park was absolutely beautiful and we could see the entire city! We just sat on a bench which then turned into lying on a bench for thirty plus minutes soaking up the shy Vancouver sun. As we departed the Park we reluctantly decided we would go to the Olympic Village. We were not that interested in partaking in such a touristy attraction, but concluded it was necessary. As we were walking through the ever lovely residential community we began speaking with a Vancouverite. We ended up walking with her for quite awhile and parted ways once she got to her home in the Cambie Village. Again I just have to say how absolutely wonderful wonderful Canadian people are. Mostly everyone we meet is so fantastic and friendly. Vancouver seems to be one of the friendliest places I have ever been too!!
So tonight we debated whether to tear up the Vancouver nightlife, but decided that we would save that for tomorrow night. Depart Vancouver tomorrow with it wishing for more from the Boehm Twins.
Tomorrow we are hiking a few of the mountains and enjoying the Vancouver wilderness.
More from us later. Pray for my computer. We tried fixing it by dropping it again. This method did not work.
